Over the past 2 months Colabo Safety School of Riding has been trying to a find safe location for the Graduation Announcement this Sunday. Here Program Mentor Dan Pape tests out Oxford Street and other primo locations in White Rock but quickly realized that if Pros are Gonna Show, the session will be large due to so many stoked fans coming out. Large Sessions bring All Skill Levels and Accidents can happen. Although the Pros in the sport are well capable of charging these hills, it doesn't mean we should and engage the youth to attempt feats like this. CLICK READ MORE FOR COMPLETE ARTICLE AND MAP
As a community we need to find safe locations like seen below when we ride in organized groups. The reasons we decided to stay away from White Rock for our Safety Demonstration Longboard Jam are many. What you do not see in the photo is all the safety measures we went through during this photo shoot and how difficult it is to skate safely in Colabo's "backyard" Locations. Do you see any cars? It's not you as a rider..........But more the vehicles that are on the road and how they are not prepared for skaters flying down. Years of experience and dedication to the sport of longboarding need to be part of the equation just to consider spots like Oxford Street. Our chosen location BELOW is steap, fast, smooth, safe, in a "No Exit" spot ending in nice uphill. Our hope is that educating our communities and municipalities just how safe we really are will help pave the way for sanctioned events on roads found in the heart of Colabo's new home, White Rock, B.C.
Riders Meeting is where we park our cars (11AM) Please don't check out the spot prior, please please park your car as far from the hill as possible on the day. No Cars on the road is the top priority, the safer the session, the better. Come out and have a good time with some of the best skaters in the world. Although the area is near a few busy streets, the Spotter Zone is cut off from main roads. We chose this spot in particular specifically for safety reasons. PARKING IS NOT ON THE ACTUAL STREET WE ARE RIDING.
The Advanced Gold Top Section is Very steep so the Pros can Dial in their "Stand-ups" and shred the Tight Left (it's tight!). However, the Blue Course allows for students that are still learning to partake as well. Please be ready to share the responsibility of spotting for your friends. Our main objective to leave the session injury-less and everyone having a super fun time.
Yellow area is Colabo Safe Skating Area for Longboard Riding (Radio Spotters)
Please respect the neighbourhood
DO NOT park anywhere Near the Spotter Zone
